Yu, Dongyue, the young man from Hunan who smeared Mao Zedong's portrait in Tiananmen Square during 1989's "June 4" movement has developed psychological problems during his 17 years in prison. 1 year after his release, the condition has not changed better. The prison would not consider any compensation. Yu, Dongyue only reckon on 120RMB per month pension for basic needs. His sister Yu, Rixia plan to sue the police for posing extra pressure which caused him psychological disorder.
According to the report, Dongyue was an art editor of Liuyang Daily. During the "June 4", 23-year-old Dongyue along with Yu, Zhijian and Lu, Decheng threw ink and eggs at the Mao Zedong's Portrait in Tiananmen Square. Later, They were all sentenced to above 10 years for "anti-revolutionary sabotage".
According to the Free Asia Radio report, Yu, Rixia said: During the two National Congress Congregations of this year, she sent three letters to the Premier Mr. Wen, Jiabao, and described the condition of her older brother in the hope that the Premier would pay some attention. but there was no response. In May, the security officials of Liuyang City came to her house and warned her not to write to higher level authorities and disclose the malpractice of local officials. They also said it's political issue.
According to the report, Yu, Rixia said that if the prison management had followed the family's requests earlier, the situation would not have been so bad. She said "Our family requested medical parole, but they said my brother was just pretending. In 1994 and 1995, the law of China changed and stipulated the police cannot beat people. There're formal documents about this. But they never followed and would not give my brother medical parole. I just disclosed these facts."
In China where no humanity and freedom of speech exist, there are so many unfortunate people just like Yu, Dongyue. The Chinese government should listen to the voice of the people, and give a late response to Yu, Dongyue.
