When Communist Party of China just came into power with the help of workers and farmers, they call their country a socialist country "based on worker-peasant alliance" and "with the leadership of the working class". At that time workers enjoy pretty high social status.
Let us look at the status of the working class now:
They are the true creators of social wealth, while they suffer inhuman treatment, especially those around 40 to 50 years old. If they want to leave, they have to leave with little pension and no benefits. If they want to stay, they are extremely exploited. If they have to retire early for sickness, their allowance is so low itós not even enough for a dog although, most enterprises do not even have it. In general, they cannot leave until their juice is squeezed up. During restructuringó of enterprises, there was a company that thought its workers got paid too much and are too difficult to manage, while the migrant workers from rural areas should demand lower pay and little benefit. So the company laid off most of workers and tried to recruit migrant workers. Finally they found out the salary is too low to attract migrant workers and had to turn back to the originally workers, knowing they are truly low-cost, hard-working labors.
In recent decades, many state-owned enterprises are privatized through ūrestructuringó and going public. Although most of the assets are accumulated by older workersó hard work in the past by low-wage and low benefits, when it comes to distribution, the workers had to take the lowest share. A factory leaderós yearly income equals a worker's income of decades. What kind of distribution system is this? Does the Constitution still count? Even the "bad capitalists" couldn't have done this. This is the status of workers in a society under so-called "leadership of the working class". Now workers and farmers live at the bottom of the society, and workers are even more suffering than farmers. Farmers still own some lands, while workers don't have anything when unemployed. If they want to obtain low-income assistance, they have to go through very strict inspection. When social security system is far from working, it's irresponsible for the government to lay off large percentage of workers. It can be said that the working class has been completely sold out by the Communist Party. The bureaucrat-capitalist class is thrilling at present.
In other countries, skilled workers often have a higher income than many white-collars. While in China, workers do not have their own Unions. Who really speak for the workers? Now Union leaders are assigned, and the workers' representative trades workers' interest for their personal benefit. Whoever tell the truth and speak for the workers will be laid off. Therefore, workers and farmers need their own independent Unions. Only when each interest group have their own representative and mutually constraints each other, could reasonable policies be made.
