Interview of LIN Qiong Ping, Director of Economic Development Department of 1st Party Division Directly under the Central Committee of CDP by LI Liuyan, Director of the Department of Infiltration Operation of the Central Committee of the CDP
Q: What is your deepest impression for all these years in America?
A: In America, as long as you can bear hardship and stand hard work, you would have a chance. This is a country with rule of law and a country of equal opportunity. When I first came to America I worked in a garment factory. When there was owner behind in paying workers’ wages or did not give workers lawful vacation, the union would organize workers to protest and to fight for workers’ lawful interests. So I think America has very good political and social environments.
Q: Do you think in an equal society, the opportunity it provides would also be equal?
A: Of course. There is no equal opportunity in an unequal society. In China, officials control enormous power, they have much greater opportunities. In doing business, ordinary people cannot equally compete with the sons and daughters of the officials. So in order to survive and develop, one must face the cruel reality of China. The government officials corrupt and bully ordinary people; the ordinary people are incapable to fight with the strong government. Therefore, I believe if China wants to have an equal social environment, she must have a change in system and to implement democracy.
